And the nominees are:
The Golden Compass- Michael L. Fink, Bill Westenhoffer, Ben Morris, Trevor Wood
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End- John Knoll, Hal T. Hickel, Charles Gibson, John Frazier
Transformers- Scott Farrar, Scott Benza, Russell Earl, John Frazier
Or that category that honors the biggest, blockbusteriest films Hollywood has up it's sleeve. This is one of the categories that goes through a bake-off, or they're are films selected and deemed and semi-finalist for the Oscar, then from that list three movies are named. These three survived out of the list of 300, Beowulf, The Bourne Ultimatum, Evan Almighty, Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix, I Am Legend, Live Free or Die Hard, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Ratatouille, Spider-man 3, Sunshine, and The Water Horse.
I suppose that Transformers is likely to favorite to win, given it's traditional, but plentiful effects, whereas my favorite of the group is The Golden Compass, a film I didn't much like, but I loved the look of the daemons and that artistically draining polar bear fight was still pretty cool. Of of snubbed ones, the one I'm most upset about is Sunshine, the most visually arresting space odyssey since 2001.
