The thing about the guild nominations isn't so much as a precursor to the what will be nominated in certain areas, but to gauge a strength or weakness. For instance,
The Town has surfaced so far in the line-ups for PGA, WGA and now ADG. It's a film that, while not considered by many to be a frontrunner for a statutes, might sneak in due to unforeseen popularity. On the flip side, the unfortunately dismissed
Winter's Bone hasn't received any guild recognition, outside of the Screen Actors Guild, perhaps proving a lower profile with the Academy at large. The usual suspects are here; every year it seems more and more achingly clear that Academy and guild members perhaps only watch six or seven movies a year. And if travesties like
Alice in Wonderland is one of them, perhaps detox is in order.
